This is a history of Tudor England through its art and objects.
We know much about the Tudor dynasty from the iconic paintings of Henry VII, Henry VIII, Mary I and Elizabeth I and the eyes of the artists who captured them. But there is also much to learn from works commissioned by the growing sector of professional men and women, beyond members of the Church and royal court. In ‘The Story of Tudor Art’, Christina Faraday looks at the art and objects of the era to unveil the vivid and detailed feel for the political, social, economic and cultural texture of 16th-century England.
At this online Members’ book club, Christina is joined by art historian Aliki Braine to discuss the Tudor era through this illustrated history of art and artefacts.
Copies of 'The Story of Tudor Art' will be available in our National Gallery gift shops.
