Agostino was the elder brother of Annibale Carracci, cousin of Ludovico Carracci, and father of Antonio Carracci. He was born in Bologna, and was active as an engraver as well as a painter. From about 1597 to 1599 he collaborated with his brother on frescoes for the gallery of the Palazzo Farnese, Rome, for which these works are cartoons. He died in Parma.
