Letter to K. Stephenson (Treasury)

Asks if Stephenson has received instructions for the Treasury to take the necessary steps in relation to the Clarkis bequest. Mr Caffe was consulted several months previously, and he suggested that in the first instance the Gallery should apply to the Treasury. With the sanction of the Director and Trustees the secretary of the Treasury was therefore contacted, being sent a copy of Mr Gerrard James and Wolfe's letter concerning the bequest together with a copy of Francis Clarkis' will and the will of his son, Francis William Clarkis. The secretary of the Treasury was asked to forward these documents and the necessary instructions to Stephenson's department, but there has so far not been any reply to these forwarded materials.
