Letter to H. Selwin-Ibberton Birt MP (Treasury)

In reference to the supplementary estimate circular from the Treasury, Eastlake would like to point out that although the Trustees of the Gallery are not aware of any present necessity for a supplementary vote for expenses during the current financial year, they request that any savings which may be expected on the entire amount of the original vote will be available for expenditure in case of emergency, as for instance in the event of any negotiation for the purchase of pictures, begun but not completed within the year 1879-1880.
