Enclosing an abstract account of the income and expenditure incurred by the Gallery in 1879. The new curator started at the Gallery on 16 June 1879, so consequently figures in 'staff salaries' only show the impact of the curator's employment for six months of the year. There is a £4000 difference in expenditure for the Gallery in 1879 compared with the Gallery in 1878, this is because the purchase of pictures occurs at irregular intervals so any difference must be considered as accidental rather than an indicator of any actual saving.
