Description

Fairfax Murray writes that the Lorenzetti fragment has become increasingly too expensive to purchase and that they should give up pursuing it. He mentions the likelihood of a commission to buy a few things for the Oxford gallery and had recommended them through Ruskin to give him the power to pay £50 or a little over for the Lorenzetti. He adds that the Italian government may succeed in their second attempt to pass a law taxing the sale of pictures to stop exportation. He mentions his purchase for Ruskin of a Madonna by Botticelli that he saw in Florence.
