Documents relating to the Gallery's purchase of Uccello's 'Saint George and the Dragon' from Count Lanckoronski including correspondence with the latter and his agent Count Pejacsevich re negotiations for the purchase and arrangements for the Director and Chairman [Lionel Robbins] and Lord Crawford to visit Zurich; drafts of letters to the Prime Minister [Rt Hon Harold Macmillan] and A.J.D. Winnifrith of HM Treasury re Government assistance towards the acquisition; notes by the Director, Lord Crawford and Davies on the picture; letters to the Trustees from the Director announcing acquisition with congratulary responses; copy of Gallery's press release and correspondence with members of press re announcement of acquisition; invitations to the Uccello party sent to dignitaries.

Also undated cutting from the Evening News containing cartoon satirizing paucity of Government's annual grant; letter from Norman Brommelle, 16 Dec 1964 re his restoration of the picture; extract from Board Minutes, 6 Jun 1961 re loan of the Musée Jacquemart-Andre's Uccello to the Gallery in return for two Goyas; correspondence with Karla Lanckoronska re Gallery's interest in her panel from Masaccio's Pisa altarpiece, 1965.
