Correspondence, 1918, with Mrs M.V. James re wartime storage of 15 of her pictures; correspondence, 1948-1949 with Messrs Bailey, Shaw and Gillett, acting for the executors of Mrs James re her bequest of 35 pictures to the National Gallery to be known as 'The Arthur James collection bequeathed by his Wife' and the Gallery's selection of 12 works; correspondence with Messrs Bailey, Shaw and Gillett, 1954, seeking the permission of Mrs James' executors to transfer the British School works in the James bequest to the Tate following the separation of the two Galleries; correspondence with V. Cavendish-Bentinck, an executor to Mrs James' will, 1966, re a letter from Dyneley Hussey to the Times, 11 Feb 1966, re an alleged condition of the James bequest that the Richard Wilson picture of Hounslow Heath should hang by a sketch of the same, and in 1974, re incorrect wording on the label for Gainsborough's 'A Pomeranian Dog and a Puppy'
