Borgherini family

The Borgherini were a rich patrician family in Florence in the 16th century. The Collection includes a number of panels by Pontormo and Bacchiacca which originally decorated a bedroom in the Palazzo Borgherini in the city. The works all illustrate aspects of the story of Joseph, and when in situ related to other paintings in the series by Granacci and Andrea del Sarto. This decorative scheme would have been one of the most sumptuous of the period.
