About

We invite you to a promenade through our collection of French paintings.

Be awed by the splendour and formality of the painters of the 'Grand Siècle' or Great Century, before delving into the more relaxed atmosphere of the Rococo period. Understanding the Académie, France's art authority, will help you explore the great artistic revolutions of the 19th century, when Paris became the birthplace of modern art.

This is an online guided talk, based on a past Members’ gallery tour with award-winning guide Muriel Carré.

Speaker

Muriel Carré is an award-winning guide specialising in art and architecture. Carré studied English Literature and History at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris, followed by a Master's degree in Art History at Christie's, London. Alongside teaching English Literature in France and abroad, Carré has worked for a contemporary art online magazine in Madrid. Carré now leads tours in English and French in all the major London museums and historic houses.
