About

Charlotte Mullins’ new book, ‘The Art Isles’ tells the story of why art in Britain and Ireland is so rich and dynamic – and why it has always extended far beyond geographical borders.

At our Members’ online book club, author Charlotte Mullins joins art historian Jacqui Ansell for a fresh conversation about the history of art in Britain.

Stretching back to the Ice Age and rocketing forward to modern artists such as Grayson Perry and Yinka Shonibare, the British Isles hold a unique position in the history of art. They are a place where local traditions fuse with international ideas in extraordinary ways.

Copies of 'The Art Isles' are available in our National Gallery gift shops.
