About

Paul Cezanne, an early companion of the Impressionists, was often misunderstood by his contemporaries, but he soon started to follow his own solitary route. Not for him the never-ending quest for the transient, fleeting ‘impression’. He was after something else and embarked on an obsessive artistic adventure, constantly striving to find a new pictorial approach to light and the visible around him.

On this tour, we will look closely at paintings by Cezanne, the ‘Master of Aix-en-Provence’ in our collection, and strive to understand how and why he is considered as one of the founding fathers of modern painting.

After the tour, we welcome you to Supporters’ House where you can reflect and discuss with others.
