About
Our friends and neighbours from St Martin-in-the-Fields perform short repertoires of songs celebrating the art of Edouard Manet, born on 23 January 1832. Manet’s unconventional subject matter drawn from modern life, and his concern for the artist's freedom in handling paint made him an important precursor of Impressionism, a radical breakaway movement that became one of the most popular styles in modern art.
Accompanied by Gallery Educator Tilly Scantlebury, discover more about the artist and his contemporaries living and working in 19th-century France.
They can be found in Central Hall at 6.45 pm, Room 41 at 7.15 pm and Room 43 at 7.45 pm.
St Martin's Voices
St Martin’s Voices is one of the UK’s most versatile professional vocal ensembles. They sing for concerts, broadcasts and special events at their home in London’s iconic St Martin-in-the-Fields and beyond, and regularly perform alongside the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, London Mozart Players and Piatti Quartet. They have toured the USA and South Africa as well as undertaking extensive tours across the UK. The choir regularly features in broadcasts including BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 and Classic FM, and have recently performed at Lambeth Palace and the Houses of Parliament.
Dr Tilly Scantlebury is an art historian and one of our Gallery Educators. Since completing their doctorate in 2021, Tilly has been delivering outreach workshops to young people and adults, which aim to widen access to art history. Alongside public programmes, Tilly also writes and delivers lectures in their research specialism of feminist, queer modern and contemporary art.
