About

Taking inspiration from our current exhibitions ‘Wright of Derby: From the Shadows’ and ‘Edwin Austin Abbey: By the Dawn’s Early Light’, capture the sublime, the mysterious, and the unknown through the use of light and dark in our collection, to create your own work.

Developed by artists Sadegh Aleahmad and Jo Conybeare, this drop-in creative session encourages you to explore light, shading, shadow and tone, found among the Italian Baroque paintings of Room 32.

Your tutors

Joanna Conybeare is an artist and Gallery Educator who has worked in Primary and Secondary schools in London and the south coast as a teacher and subject lead for Art and Design. In her own artistic practice, she uses clay, porcelain and terracotta to explore the figure, enjoying the immediacy of the material that enables her to ‘draw’ three-dimensionally.

Sadegh Aleahmad is a London based Iranian-born artist who examines the construction of his diasporic identity through performance, sculpture, poetry, moving image and photography. His practice focuses on solo work and community collaborations.
