This tour is an invitation to delve into the art and life of Edouard Manet. He was a grand bourgeois and a republican. He was steeped in the art of the Old Masters, yet he invented modernity. He strove for official recognition and he broke all the rules. He led the group of Impressionists but never painted like them.
Come and look closely at his works – they may be few in numbers, but each is a masterpiece, revealing one or several aspects of his art and personality. Next to the works of his artistic companions and contemporaries, and in dialogue with the artists that inspired him, his artistic personality shines through.
After the tour, we welcome you to Supporters’ House where you can reflect and discuss with others.
