Artist and host of the ‘Pattern Portraits’ podcast Lauren Godfrey leads a tour of patterns in the National Gallery Collection.
This tour will focus on the lyrical and expressive way patterns have been used in painting throughout history, leading you through the Gallery and culminating in self-guided visit to the exhibition, 'Radical Harmony: Helene Kröller-Müller's Neo-Impressionists' where you can further explore Neo-Impressionism through the lens of pattern.
The tour will be followed by a drawing workshop, taking inspiration from the patterns visited during the tour and taking place in the sumptuous surroundings of the Salon, located in Supporters' House.

Lauren Godfrey is an artist based in London. Her work invites interaction and collaboration, often swerving close to furniture or the quasi-useful. In recent work, fountains and sundials – elemental clichés – meet post-modern silhouettes and pattern overload. There’s a suggested functionality and a whisper of a potential state shift, collaborating with surrounding elements and viewers alike. The work offers space to the viewer whether it be to take a meditative moment in the company of trickling water or an invitation to interact and respond.
