About

Of the more than 2,400 paintings in the National Gallery’s collection, just 27 are by women artists – over a third of which were acquired thanks to legacy gifts. These acts of generosity have benefitted generations of our visitors and will continue to do so for years to come.

This Legacy Awareness Month, join Gallery Educator Fiona Alderton as she explores some of the Gallery’s most-loved works by women and the incredible gifts – both big and small – that brought them here.

Fiona Alderton

Fiona Alderton is a Gallery Educator and storyteller. With a background in performance, she writes and leads sessions for adults and children, including commissions for various organisations such as the National Portrait Gallery, Dulwich Picture Gallery, and the Royal Opera House in London.
