Rachel Maclean discusses The Lion and the Unicorn

Hear Scottish artist Rachel Maclean talk about her satirical engagement with issues of national identity and the construction of female beauty, and reflect on the dialogue between her own caustic and darkly comical films and the paintings of the 19th-century English artist, Landseer.

Biography

Maclean's work is the focus of our current exhibition, Rachel Maclean: The Lion and The Unicorn. In 2017, Maclean was selected to represent Scotland at the Venice Biennale. Her work has also been shown at Tate; MCA (Chicago); Hugh Lane Gallery, (Dublin); Zabludowicz Collection (London); The Talbot Rice Gallery (Edinburgh); Tramway (Glasgow); the Royal Scottish Academy and as part of Glasgow International Festival. Her exhibition 'Over The Rainbow' was recently held at the National Gallery of Australia.
