Join us for a screening of the award-winning ‘Mrs Brown’ directed by John Madden, detailing the seldom-explored relationship between Queen Victoria and John Brown

Set in 1863 in the Scottish Highlands, the film follows Queen Victoria during the period after the death of her beloved husband Prince Albert and her subsequent withdrawal from public life to Balmoral Castle. John Brown is summoned to court unbeknown to Queen Victoria to help her return to her royal duties.

During Queen Victoria’s reign she commissioned several paintings from Edwin Landseer; known for his iconic Highland scenes including ‘The Monarch of The Glen’ which returns to the Gallery for the first time since 1851. See it alongside other paintings and drawings by Landseer in Room 1, 28 November 2018 – 3 February 2019.
