Depictions in art of the erotic, the sexual, and the uninhibited have excited and provoked in equal measure throughout art's history. Paintings encompass diverse sexualities and the ways in which sexuality has been explored has never been static or orthodox, prompting reactions ranging from disgust to adulation.

To coincide with Pride in London 2017, art historian Richard Stemp explores how artists have depicted sexuality in unexpected, diverse, and contrasting ways.
