KS5 workshop: Chemistry and art

Date and time

Thursday 3 November, 2–4pm

This session is free, to book, please visit  rsc.org/events/detail/22968/chemistry-and-art-workshop#contacts

This workshop is run in partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry. Pupils will explore processes such as spectroscopy and how it is applied within the context of the Gallery.

Themes explored include ‘materials and techniques’ and, ‘paintings as physical objects’.

Guided by a Gallery educator, pupils will consider why transition metal complexes and compounds are important to artists. The workshop also explores paintings as objects by analysing the physical and chemical changes they go through and how National Gallery scientists study these changes and investigate the chemical processes involved.

Maximum number of pupils: 25
