Michelangelo was somewhat dismissive of his poetry, but it inspired a profound and personal response in two great 20th-century composers, Benjamin Britten and Dmitri Shostakovich.

Renaissance specialist Richard Stemp is joined by pianist Sholto Kynoch, Artistic Director of the Oxford Lieder Festival, with renowned tenor Daniel Norman and baritone Ashley Riches, BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, to explore the poetry of Michelangelo through the music of Britten and Shostakovich.
