The Assassination of Saint Peter Martyr
Workshop of Giovanni Bellini

This panel depicts the attack on two Dominican friars near Milan in 1252, in which Peter Martyr was murdered. The woodsmen in the background echo the violence with which the saint was killed. A member of Bellini’s workshop based the outlines of the four central figures on Bellini’s painting of the same subject.
