Bridge of Sighs, Ducal Palace and Custom House, Venice: Canaletti Painting
Joseph Mallord William Turner

This was Turner's first view in oil of Venice. It is also an act of homage to the greatest view painter of Venice, Antonio Canaletto, who had lived in the previous century.

Turner in fact shows Canaletto in the left foreground, working at an easel.
