Cornelis Norbertus Gysbrechts

active 1659 - 1672

Gysbrechts was a Flemish artist who worked in Antwerp, Germany, and Denmark, including under the patronage of two Kings of Denmark from 1668 to 1672, Frederic III (born 1609, reigned 1648-70) and Christian V (born 1646, reigned 1670-99). The artist’s characteristic trompe l’oeil paintings display his creativity and skill in rendering different textures as he deceives spectators into believing that they view real, tangible objects rather than paintings of the objects.
