The draft has been arranged into folders containing individual chapters (there are no folders for chapters 6 and 13). The folders are numbered in sequence and include: Folder 1: Introduction; Folder 2: Chapter 2, Romanesque Painting; Folder 3: Chapter 3, The earlier primitives; Folder 4: Chapter 4, The later primitives; Folder 5: Chapter 5, The prelude to the Modern era; Folder 6: Chapter 7, El Greco, 1541-1614; Folder 7: Chapter 8, The Seventeenth Century, Ribalta; Folder 8: Chapter 9, The Seventeenth Century in Seville, Seville general, Francisco de Zurbaran, 1598-1664, Alonso Cano, 1601-1667, Murillo, 1618-1682; Folder 9: Chapter 10, Tristan, Maino, and the earlier School of Madrid; Folder 10; Chapter 11, Velazquez; Folder 11; Chapter 12, The Official successors of Velazquez(I del Mazo, II Carreno); Folder 12: Chapter 14, Interregnum, 1700-1775; Folder 13: Chapter 15, Goya 1746-1828; Folder 14: Chapter 16, The Nineteenth Century; Folder 15: Bibliography, was found to be missing in 2001.
