Informing him that the surface of the 'Raising of Lazarus' by Sebastiano del Piombo has been growing obscure from the discolouration of the varnish. At a special meeting the Trustees and Director invited the following gentlemen to attend and express their view: Sir Frederick Leighton P.R.A., G Richmond R.A., G. F. Watts R.A., E. J. Millais R.A., E. J. Poynter R.A. and George Scharf,
Keeper of the National Portrait Gallery. It was decided that it would be unwise to postpone the cleaning and advice would be sought from competent experts. Requesting that the Treasury forms a committee under the Presidency of the Director and including Board members, to obtain evidence on the question and take such steps as necessary.
