Original coloured engraving by Alais after T.H. Shepherd, showing Trafalgar Square with the new Nelson monument after the installation of the west bas relief (1850 or 1851) but before the erection of the statue of Maj. Gen. Napier in 1856. This is an idealised view rather than an actual one (the fourth plinth has never been permanently occupied by a statue). Copy photograph: National Gallery. Neg. M201.
