Description

Copy of Board minutes and correspondence connected with the meeting at which the acquisition was discussed. Statement by the Chairman summarizing the progress made on the acquisition, pointing out the difficulty of acquiring the work during a change in government. Despite difficulties a government grant for more than half the proposed purchase price has nonetheless been agreed, a technical detail over the method of payment is delaying proceedings however. Letter to Lord Robbins from Sir Alexander Killick stating that the Trustees of the Max Rayne Foundation support Mr Rayne's recommendation regarding the Cezanne, and will therefore be willing to provide £450,000 towards the cost of the acquisition- half the total cost. Rayne will remain anonymous. Telegram to various Trustees informing them that the acquisition has been completed, and an announcement will be made in the House of Commons that afternoon, dated 20 Nov 1964.
