Letter from Messrs Stephenson, Harwood and Tatham, solicitors, 31 Dec 1928, with extract from Lord Carmichael's will, announcing the bequest of a Florentine picture of a Virgin and Child to the National Gallery subject to his wife's life interest; correspondence with Mary, Lady Carmichael, 1945 re wartime storage of the above picture, ascribed to Fra Diamante, at the Gallery; correspondence with solicitors, 1956, re acceptance of the bequest following the discovery that Lady Carmichael, who held a life interest in the picture, died in 1947.
