What does it mean for a painting to be architectural? Buildings in paintings have too often been treated as space fillers; however, when depicted buildings are examined more closely, it becomes clear that they performed a series of crucial roles. Throughout history, artists and architects have inspired each other, sharing ideas, motifs, practices and techniques. On this study morning you will hear from art historians, an architect and an artist discussing the many layers of meaning conveyed by fictive buildings and how this connects with their practice.
