This talk examines how artists have responded to the ‘garden of love’ theme in their paintings, starting with a look at Rubens’ personal take on the garden of love relating to his wife Helene Fourment and his own constructed garden at his house in Antwerp, and moving on to consider Rococo pastoral scenes by artists including Boucher.

Lunchtime talks

On Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, focus in on one painting with our talks in the Gallery, or explore wider themes in the collection at our in-depth theatre talks.
