Barocci spoke about painting and music being equal: a painter matches tones like a musician matches notes.

At this event you will hear Italian and English music from the time of Barocci, performed by the Ensemble Bella Gerit, Urbino, Italy:

Enea Sorini (voice)
Simone Sorini (voice)
Leah Stuttart (harp and spinet)
Michele Carreca (lute)

Programme

The Renaissance in Italy

Simone Balsamino, first music for Torquato Tasso’s 'Aminta' from 'Le novellette a sei voci' (1594).

Balsamino was an Italian composer, poet and dramatist who was in Venice as ‘Maestro di Cappella del Duomo’. He worked at the court of Urbino when Barocci was alive.

The Renaissance in England

John Dowland, songs taken from his three 'Books of Songs' (published between 1597 and 1603).

Dowland is perhaps the most famous English Renaissance composer, singer, and lutenist. He spent time in Italy (Venice and Florence), where he probably met Balsamino.
