'Renoir Landscapes 1865-1883'

Pierre-Auguste Renoir's early landscapes reveal the artist's remarkable experimentation and innovation, and this uplifting exhibition is the first to examine this vital aspect of Renoir's achievement.

Bringing together some 70 landscapes, the exhibition includes works executed when the young artist was working beside the painters who would become his fellow Impressionists and features landscapes of intensive light and colour painted in France, Italy, Guernsey and Algeria.

'Renoir Landscapes' opens on 21 February. Advance booking advised.

'Tim Gardner: New Works'

Tim Gardner, a young artist (born 1973) currently living in British Columbia, spent three months exploring the Gallery's collection and used an artist's studio here. This exhibition highlights the paintings he executed in the wake of that experience.

Gardner works primarily in watercolour and many of his paintings have been based on snapshots of family, friends, athletes and mountain landscapes.

'Tim Gardner: New Works' continues until 15 April. Admission is free.
An accompanying catalogue is available, price £4.95.

'Manet to Picasso'

The late 19th and early 20th century collection display continues in the Sainsbury Wing temporary exhibition galleries on level -2. This offers a unique opportunity to re-examine the outstanding scope of the National Gallery's collection in this area.

This special new hang has proved very popular with visitors, and includes the Impressionist paintings that are among the best-loved pictures in the collection. The display is also enhanced with loans that both illuminate and complement the collection. 'Manet to Picasso' continues until May 2007. Admission is free.
