Tokyo Story
Yasujiro Ozu, 1953

Ozu's meditation on family life follows elderly parents Shukichi and Noriko as they make the strenuous journey from their home village to visit their children in Tokyo.
An unhurried approach makes this a profound and deeply moving film in which the characters reveal themselves through everyday rituals and conversations.
The accumulation of these small incidences gradually reveals the generational differences. Finally, we are deeply struck by the parents' tolerance and acceptance of grief, and their seeming inability to feel self-pity.
