Rocco e i suoi fratelli
Luchino Visconti, 1960

Saturday 26 July, 2.30pm
Sainsbury Wing Theatre
'Rocco and His Brothers' chronicles the experiences of an Italian peasant family from a village in southern Italy who struggle to adapt when they move to the industrial metropolis of Milan.
While this is a gritty epic of modern urban life, Visconti has by this time moved on from his Neorealist sensibilities. The performances of brothers Alain Delon (Rocco) and Renato Salvatori (Simone) reveal a new emotional theatricality; they remain pitch perfect as the film reaches its almost operatic climax.
