A group of rich Italians are on a cruise off the coast of Sicily when one woman mysteriously disappears. The woman’s boyfriend and a close friend begin a search for her, and a desultory romance develops.
With its leisurely pace, sparse dialogue and elusive narrative 'L’Avventura' marked a new, enigmatic departure in cinema.
Film historian Geoffrey Nowell-Smith describes it as ‘a film which makes the world look different, and after which other films look stale.’
