Days of Heaven

Terrence Malick, 1978
Colour, cert PG, 90 mins

Saturday 10 May, 2.30pm
Sainsbury Wing Theatre

An isolated Texan farmer (Sam Shepard) befriends two itinerant labourers (Richard Gere and Brooke Adams), but the relationships prove complex and tension quietly builds.

Malick draws out the lyrical qualities of this intimate story: luminous passages of music and panoramic sweeps of wheat fields are interrupted only by sparse dialogue and an improvised, dreamlike narration.

Out of tragedy and the harsh realities of turn-of-the-century work, Malick crafts an achingly beautiful film.
