3. Why does the Gallery offer free admission to the permanent collection?
The National Gallery's collection belongs to the people of the United Kingdom, and therefore it is open, free of charge, to all.
One of the Gallery's aims is to provide access to the collection for the education and enjoyment of the widest possible audience by maintaining free admission during the most convenient opening hours.
