Zanobi Machiavelli: 'Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist'
This painting is part of the group: Panels from an Altarpiece

Explore the paintings

This panel formed the left wing of an Augustinian altarpiece. Saint John the Baptist's scroll is inscribed with his words from the New Testament (John 1: 29). The right wing of the altarpiece depicts 'Saint Mark and Saint Augustine'. It has been suggested that both panels may have been from the same ensemble as the triptych 'The Virgin and Child with Saints'.
