Workshop of Raffaellino del Garbo: 'The Virgin and Child with Two Angels'

Explore the paintings

Round paintings (tondi) were popular in Renaissance Florence. This one has a precariously balanced composition - appropriate for the subject of Christ falling asleep in his mother's arms. The Child, who is partly supported by the Virgin's book, seems to have been sent to sleep by the angel musicians, who now pause in their playing, having successfully completed their task.
