The saint has not been identified. Both this work and 'A Crowned Female Figure' are fragments from the decorative border of a large fresco, and were perhaps originally hexagons.
These works, together with 'A Group of Poor Clares' by Pietro Lorenzetti's brother Ambrogio Lorenzetti, are from S. Francesco, Siena, either from the cloister or the Chapter House. Two other frescoes by Pietro Lorenzetti, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection, survive from the Chapter House.
