The Virgin and Child with Saint Joseph, who holds a dish of fruit, rest by a fountain bearing a figure similar to the one on the Manneken Pis fountain in Brussels.
In the background is the Miracle of the Corn. According to this story the Holy Family came across a man sowing corn; the next day he was questioned by officers of Herod seeking Christ. The man said he had seen the fugitives when he was sowing, but miraculously the crop had grown overnight to its full height and the pursuers were deceived. The legend is associated with the Flight into Egypt.
This is considered a workshop product. A rather similar composition but reversed is in Philadelphia Museum of Art.
