A studio piece usually dated to the 1490s. The crisp white drapery of the Virgin with its compelling plasticity, looking as if it were starched, and its relative lack of response to the forms covered was characteristic of Bellini (see, for example, the draperies in his 'Circumcision', also in the Collection).
