Workshop of Gerard David: 'Saint Jerome in a Landscape'
Saint Jerome kneels before a crucifix in an expansive landscape. His attribute, the lion, who worked for him after the saint had removed a thorn from the animal's paw, rests on the path. The saint has a stone in his hand and wounds upon his chest - these are indicative of the self-abasement he inflicted for his faith.

A number of variations of this subject, related to the work of David, are known. This panel, which has endured a fair amount of damage, is problematic to date.
