Sunset in the Auvergne

Although this painting has traditionally been associated with Auvergne, where Rousseau spent several months in 1830, the vigorous brushwork have led many to believe it to have been painted in the 1840s. In 1844 Rousseau visited the south-west of France and this may be a view of the Pyrenees.
