Telemaco Signorini: 'Sketch for Straw Weavers at Settignano'

Explore the paintings

This small oil sketch is a first idea for a painting in a private collection. It shows a craft worker in Settignano, a village in the hills above Florence.

Signorini was a member of a group of Florentine painters known as 'macchiaioli' - literally, mark or spot-makers. He was a life-long friend of Degas, whose works hang nearby in the Gallery.
