Studio of Louis Tocqué (?): 'Jean Michel de Grilleau'

Explore the paintings

The sitter was born in 1708 and died in 1769. Tocqué's probable original is recorded as still in the family possession in 1939; it shows Grilleau wearing the ribbon of the Order of Saint Michel, which he obtained in 1746.

This picture is probably only a studio copy. The sitter is not wearing the Saint Michel, which was therefore probably added about 1746 to the original portrait.
