Quiringh van Brekelenkam: 'Interior of a Tailor's Shop'

Explore the paintings

Brekelenkam painted many versions of this subject, using the same basic composition. The earliest version dates from 1653 (Worcester, Mass., Art Museum), and the latest from 1664 (private collection). This painting can probably be dated to just before 1661. In the background is a still life painting in the manner of Pieter Claesz. (1597/8 - 1660); Brekelenkam himself occasionally painted still lifes in this style and this may be after one of his own works.
