Humpry Morice was one of Batoni’s most important English clients. Unlike many of the artist’s sitters, Sir Humphry visited Rome for reasons of health rather than tourism. Batoni shows him relaxing after hunting outside the city, with the Torre Leonina of the Vatican in the distance.
